Objective
To move the DAS database to a new SQL server/instance name
Resolution
- Make backups of:
- Uninstall the App Control Server:
- If an App Control Agent is currently installed on the server, temporarily disable Tamper Protection and move it to Local Approval.
- Log in to the application server as the Carbon Black Service Account.
- Navigate to Start > Run > appwiz.cpl > click OK.
- Make a note of the App Control Server version currently installed, and uninstall.
- Log in to the existing SQL Server:
- Launch SQL Server Management Studio
- Expand Databases > right click das > Tasks Detach...
- Check the box to Drop Connections.
- Click OK
- Log in to the new SQL Server:
- Restore the App Control das database.
- Verify the relevant SQL Permissions are applied to the Service Account.
- Log in to the application server as the Carbon Black Service Account and install App Control Server as outlined in Server Documentation > Server Installation Guide on VMware Docs.
- Note: It is recommended to use the same App Control Server version as was used previously.
- When prompted, choose "Use Existing Database".
- When prompted, use the Console and IIS Certificates stored in the database. If necessary, use the exported backups.
- After installation is complete, log in to the Console and confirm Agents are connecting.
Additional Notes
The only way to point the Console to a new SQL Server is during installation.
