Starting with the release of the upcoming Windows App Control 8.9.0 agent, a new Product Lifecycle Support Policy for Carbon Black App Control will be implemented for both agent and server. The changes will impact all App Control customers.
Standard Support Policy Changes
In our previous support policy, major and minor server/agent releases remained in standard support for a finite period of 18 months, regardless of future major or minor releases.
With the release of the 8.9.0 Windows agent, major and minor versions will remain in standard support for a period of up to 12 months. If a newer major or minor version is released, the previous Major or Minor release will remain in standard support for a period of 6 months.
For example, the 8.9.0 Windows agent will remain in standard support for a period of up to 12 months until either an 8.10 or 9.X.X version is released. Once either one of these versions is released, the 8.9.0 Windows agent will remain in standard support for a period of 6 months after the GA of the newest release.
Extended Support Policy Changes
In our previous support policy major, minor, and maintenance releases remained in extended support for 24 months. With the release of the 8.9.0 Windows agent, major, minor, and maintenance releases will remain in extended support for 12 months.
Why Are We Making These Changes?
App Control is a security product and its efficacy depends upon customers deploying the latest releases that address issues in the product as well as changes in the threat landscape. Customers that are running the latest releases can also leverage the new features, workflow enhancements, and performance improvements to benefit App Control administrators as well as their end users to make for a better overall user experience.
These policy updates will apply to both future App Control servers and agent releases.
