CB Protection 8.1.4 Windows Agent has been removed from the UeX

Final Update 7/9/2019: 8.1.5 Windows Agent has been posted

Update 6/28/19: I am targeting to have the 8.1.5 build ready for GA around the 10th of July.

Hello,

BLUF

Due to an issue with the 8.1.4 Windows Agent, the CB Protection team has decided to remove the agent binary from the UeX. A replacement agent is being tested and will be released shortly.

Details

Several customers have reported BSOD issues after upgrading to the 8.1.4 Windows Agent.  We have identified the root cause and will be releasing a fix in an 8.1.5 Windows Agent.

Multiple, related  issues were found and resolved, the first issue was a defect in the code for normalizing file paths. In the case of paths that ended up being longer than 248 characters, a buffer overrun could occur that can cause a BSOD. Second, we discovered a value size mismatch that can cause arbitrary behavior.

Remediation

Customers can download the older Host Package Installer for 8.1 Patch 2 if they need to deploy Windows agents after upgrading to the 8.1.4 Server.  Please find the 8.1 Patch 2 Host Package Installer here

For customers that have already deployed 8.1.4 Windows Agents, we recommend waiting for the release of 8.1.5 which will correct the problem. Installing 8.1 Patch 2 host package installer will overwrite the 8.1.4 installer files on the server. However, you will need to uninstall the 8.1.4 agents on machines that you have already deployed to and reinstall 8.1.0 P2. This will result in losing file state on impacted machines and will force re-initialization on reinstall.

Timeframe for 8.1.5 Windows Agent Release

The code changes have already been implemented and we are progressing through our testing process. We will provide a timeline for release as soon as possible. Check this page for updates.

Update 6/28/19: I am targeting to have the 8.1.5 build ready for GA around the 10th of July.

Thank you,

Larry

Will this require upgrading the Bit9 server or just the client software?

RD

@rdoran Just the agent will need to be upgraded once the new release is available.   This is one advantage of splitting the server and agents starting with the 8.1.4 server version.

Hope this helps.
