Active directory policy mappings not working on some Mac systems

Version:

  1. 7.0.1 and later

Issue:

Active directory policy mapping is not working on some Mac computers despite them being in the correct groups.

Symptoms:

Mac systems are in the correct policy

In the console, the host name appears as servername.company.com

When querying the Mac system for the host name, it also appears as servername.company.com

The host name of the Mac system contains one of the following special characters or a space: ,~:!@#$%^&'(){}\"`

Cause:

Bit9 actively validates host names when looking up their name in active directory (see the Notes section for information). This causes us to ignore host names that contain invalid characters such as a period.

Solution:

In order to resolve this issue, the host name of the machine must be changed to the short name for the system and any invalid characters must be removed.
