After installing Microsoft .NET patches, Cb Protection Console is no longer available

Version

Cb Protection (formerly Bit9), all versions

Issue

After installing .NET 4.5.2 patches on Windows Server 2008 R2, the Cb Protection console is no longer accessible.

Symptoms

When attempting to open the console in the browser, a 'page cannot be displayed' screen shows almost instantly.
Viewing the request in the dev console of the browser shows no response code.

Cause

The patches may have reset the certificate bindings in IIS for the console.

Solution

  1. On the CB Protection server, open IIS Manager.
  2. On the left pane, expand the server name, then expand Sites.
  3. Select 'Parity Console Web'.
  4. On the far right, under Actions, select 'Bindings...'.
  5. Select the https 443 binding and click on Edit.
  6. The SSL certificate may show as blank, or none.   Select the drop down, and make sure 'Bit9 Parity Console Certificate' is selected, then select OK.

Notes:

The exact name of the certificate might look different in IIS, so please validate common name and expiration date before binding the cert to the Cb Protection website.
