Objective
To configure Windows for a Full Memory Dump.
Resolution
- Open Control Panel > System and Security > System > Advanced System Settings.
- Choose the Advanced tab > Startup and Recovery > Settings and verify:
- Write debugging information: Complete Memory Dump.
- Dump file: Path specified exists and has enough free space.
- Select OK to set, then Apply in the System Properties page
Additional Notes
- A full memory dump provides support with more visibility into the cause of the crash or cause of high memory usage
- minidumps generally do not provide enough information to get a root cause
