Question

Why does the hostname reported change automatically on macOS?

Answer

By default the macOS is configured to use a dynamic global hostname that changes based on the IP Address. This can be managed in several ways, more details can be found here.

Additional Notes

  • In some instances Dynamic Global Hostname can cause the App Control Agent to show as a Duplicate Computer.
  • The following macOS command could be scripted to change the hostname:
    sudo scutil --set HostName LT2002.local
