App Control: Console upgrade to 8.9 on unpatched SQL Server fails due to database script 'migrate' error

Environment

  • App Control Server: 8.9
  • MS SQL Server

Symptoms

  • The App Control setup wizard fails with an error message:
A critical database script 'migrate' needed to install the CB App Control Server failed with an error.
Cannot continue the execution because the session is in the kill state.
  • SQL memory dump created in the SQL Server logs folder

Cause

This is caused by existing issues with unpatched SQL 2019 and prior versions when using Scalar UDF Inlining

Resolution

  1. Apply the latest SQL Server Cumulative Update
  2. Restore the 'Das' database from backup
  3. Install the App Control 8.9 server app using the existing database option
