App Control: How to Reinstall IIS

Environment

  • App Control Server: All Supported Versions
  • Microsoft Windows Server: All Supported Versions

Objective

To reinstall Internet Information Services (IIS)

Resolution

  1. Take a full backup of the App Control database.
  2. Log in to the application server hosting the Console as the Carbon Black Service Account.
  3. Uninstall App Control Server software.
  4. Uninstall IIS
    1. Open Server Manager > Manage > Remove Roles and Features > select the server hostname > Next
    2. Uncheck "Web Server" (IIS) > Next
    3. Uncheck "Windows Process Activation Service" > Remove
    4. Wait for uninstall to complete
    5. Restart the application server.
    6. After reboot, in File Explorer, delete or rename the following folders:
      • C:\inetpub
      • C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv
      • Check any secondary drives for remnants of IIS logs or configuration files
  5. Reinstall IIS
    1. Open Server Manager > Manage > Add Roles and Features > select the server hostname > Next
    2. Add the Server Role: Web Server (IIS), confirm configuration matches Common Requirements from Carbon Black App Control Documentation -> Server OER  
    3. Click Next and wait for install to complete. Reboot if prompted
  6. Reinstall the App Control Server software.

Additional Notes

Uninstalling IIS will remove any custom configurations that were previously set.
