App Control: How to add a Publisher

Environment

  • App Control Console:

Objective

Add a publisher in the App Control Console

Resolution

  1. Log in to the Console on a computer that has access to the file whose publisher needs to be added.
  2. On the Publishers tab, click the Add Publisher button to view the Add Publisher dialogue.
  3. Click on the Browse button and locate an application file that is validly signed by the publisher.
  4. In Windows, confirm that the file is signed by right-clicking on the file and choosing Properties. If there is a Digital Signature tab, the file is signed.
  5. Double-click the filename to enter it into the File Name field.
  6. Click the Save button. The publisher's information will be extracted and the publisher is added to the table. Please note that it will initially be in the Unapproved state.
  7. To approve or ban this publisher for all policies, check the box next to its new entry in the Publisher table and choose Approved Publishers or Ban Publishers from the Action menu on the right.

Additional Notes

When a publisher is added manually, the App Control Server creates a temporary copy of the file you identified and then deletes it after the publisher has been added. If an Agent is running on the server computer, the file will appear in the File Catalog but will have a prevalence of zero.
