Receiving an error event regarding poor performance on accessing network share.
Symptoms
Bit9 Agent detected a problem: Machine is not configured to cache SMB names, which can lead to poor performance when accessing network shares. See Microsoft Knowledge Base article KB834350. CurrentCacheLevel[0] KeyExists[No]. Severity[Low] Options[00000003] TotalFailures[1]
Cause
The system is missing the hotfix described on the Microsoft KB834350.
Solution
Apply the hotfix and registry change as indicated on Microsoft KB834350 from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/834350. This error does not indicate that the Bit9 agent is broken. It's a notification from the Bit9 agent that if this is not resolved on the system, it may affect performance when accessing SMB network shares, which may delay the Bit9 agent from analyzing network files and cause a block if it timed out.
Update: The link in the solution above doesn't appear to be reachable any longer. Microsoft has found a resolution for this issue; it does not appear to be a Bit9 problem, but rather a Windows problem. The archived page https://web.archive.org/web/20141226034401/http://support.microsoft.com/kb/834350/ contains information that some customers have had success with. If this approach is attempted, ensure that you maintain best practices when modifying the Windows Registry (caution, backups, etc).
