Blocks on Windows Defender Updates

Blocks on Windows Defender Updates

Version:
6.0.x, 7.0.x, 7.2.0.x

Issue:

Attempt to update Windows Defender manually via the control panel results in blocks.

Symptoms:

Content cannot be downloaded or downloaded content fails to be applied.

Cause:

The typical approach to updating Windows Defender is via Windows Updates. Traditionally updates and patches are managed by the system administrator thus our Trusted Updater does not include rules for a manual update.

Solution:
If the system administrator wishes to allow end users to manually update Windows Defender, then approve msascui.exe by its hash.
