CB Defense: Sensor not upgrading if installed with AUTO_UPDATE=0

CB Defense: Sensor not upgrading if installed with AUTO_UPDATE=0

Environment

  • CB Defense PSC Web Console: All Versions
  • CB Defense PSC Sensor: 2.0.x.x and higher
  • Microsoft Windows: All Versions

Symptoms

  • Sensor update pushed from Web Console
  • Sensor version on endpoint remains unchanged
  • Sensor version shown in Web Console remains unchanged
  • Manual sensor upgrade works without issue

Cause

Sensor was installed with AUTO_UPDATE=0 and update was pushed out via Web Console

Resolution

Once AUTO_UPDATE is set, it cannot be changed without an uninstall and re-install of the Sensor

  1. Uninstall the Sensor from the impacted endpoint
  2. Re-install the Sensor on the impacted endpoint
OR

Continue upgrading sensor manually or using preferred third party management software e.g. GPO, SCCM, etc..

Additional Notes

  • The AUTO_UPDATE install switch allows or disallows Sensor upgrades to be pushed out from the Web Console
  • AUTO_UPDATE=0 -  upgrades from the Web Console are not allowed
  • AUTO_UPDATE=1 - upgrades from the Web Console, manual upgrades, and upgrades third party software management software are allowed
  • When AUTO_UPDATE install switch is not used, the default is to allow software upgrades from all sources including the Web Console
