App Control: Error: Unsupported Kernel Version (Linux)

Environment

• Carbon Black App Control (Formerly CB Protection): All Supported Versions
• Linux: All Supported Versions

Symptoms

Receiving healthcheck error: "Unsupported Kernel Version"

Cause

• Running an unsupported Linux OS
• Unsupported kernel modules are found in /lib/modules
• Additionally, kernels can reside in /lib/modules, but not actually running. The error will trigger on this as well.

Resolution

1. Confirm if the OS is currently supported:
   • CB Response Sensors & CB Protection Agents: Linux
2. A future release will differentiate if it's the OS itself or a module causing the error
   • Code change is tracked under "EP-6975"
