Carbon Black Cloud: How to Perform an Instant Upgrade to a Sensor on a Single Windows Endpoint

Environment

  • Carbon Black Cloud (Formerly PSC) Console: All Versions
  • Carbon Black Cloud (Formerly CB Defense) Sensor: All Versions
  • Microsoft Windows: All Supported Versions

Objective

Provide steps for an instant upgrade, on an single Windows endpoint

Resolution

  1. Login to the Carbon Black Cloud Console
  2. Go to the Endpoints page
  3. Click on the 'Sensor Options' drop-down
  4. Click on 'Download Sensor Kits'
  5. Download a newer sensor version of your choice
  6. Place the upgrade sensor version .msi on the endpoint you wish to upgrade
  7. Double-click the msi installer and follow the prompts to complete upgrade

Additional Notes

  • As the Sensor is already installed containing all of the parameters it requires to communicate with the backend (carbon Black Cloud Console), no additional input is required from the User, in terms of installation codes
  • Checking the Local Sensor UI Icon, from the System Tray on the endpoint, by right-clicking and selecting 'about', will confirm the newly upgraded version
  • Checking the Endpoints page in the console, should reflect the change shortly after
