Carbon Black Cloud: Is Unidesk/Citrix App Layering Supported?

Carbon Black Cloud: Is Unidesk/Citrix App Layering Supported?

Environment

  • Carbon Black Cloud sensor: All supported versions
    • Endpoint Standard
    • Endpoint Advanced
    • Endpoint Enterprise

Question

Can the Cb Defense Sensor be installed on Unidesk/Citrix Application Layering (App Layering) technology?

Answer

  • The recommendation for virtualization technologies is to install the Sensor on the Operating System Layer (OS Layer) to function properly
  • While Unidesk and Citrix have called out being able to install many common AV products on an Application Layer (App Layer), this has not been tested specifically in-house
  • Deployment of the Cb Defense Sensor on Unidesk or Citrix on an App Layer is not currently supported

Additional Notes

  • While it may be technically possible to install a Carbon Black Cloud sensor on an App Layer it is not a supported or recommended configuration do to the issues often caused in the Citrix application
  • Issues that arise from installing a Carbon Black Cloud sensor on an App Layer can and often do require user layers to be reset as well as loss of specific user settings requiring a significant amount of work in the Citrix application
  • "Citrix DaaS cloud service" is nothing but "Cloud" , in layman's term, outsourcing IT infrastructure to someone else or renting IT  infrastructure. It is simply a rebranding of "Citrix App and Desktop" and other Citrix technologies / adapting to new renting paradigm of IT infrastructure.
