Cb Protection: "Generic host package could not obtain default values from registry" error when installing new agent

Cb Protection: "Generic host package could not obtain default values from registry" error when installing new agent

Environment

  • CB Protection Agent: All Supported Versions
  • Microsoft Windows: All Supported Versions

Symptoms

When trying to install a new agent, the installation fails with an error message.
Generic host package could not obtain default values from registry. Install cannot proceed without server and port settings.

Cause

This is a result of using the ParityHostAgent.msi file to deploy new agents, which is intended to be used for upgrades only. This package does not contain the necessary configurations to deploy a new agent.

Resolution

Deploying a new agent requires the use of one of the installer packages obtained from the server, located at: https://<Server Name>/hostpkg

Additional Notes

  • To use the ParityHostAgent.msi for deploying new agents, follow the steps for Manually Upgrade
  • This can also happen when using the policy installer with incorrect permissions
