Container: ImagePullBackOff "Repository Does Not Exist or May Require Authorization"

Environment

  • VMWare Carbon Black Container Essentials: All Supported Versions

Symptoms

  • When trying to deploy the octarine custom resources, some pods are getting a ImagePullBackOff error
  • Some error messages may be seen "Failed to pull image", "failed to pull and unpack image", "repository does not exist or may require authorization"

Cause

  • This can be caused if not all the paths can be resolved correctly like docker.io, defense-prod05.conferdeploy.net or events.containers.carbonblack.io
  • This can also happen if the secret is not correct 

Resolution

  • Find and resolve any DNS or resolution issues
  • Recreate and make sure to copy and past the exact secret command
