Endpoint Standard: How To Pause a Background Scan

Environment

• Carbon Black Cloud Console: All Versions
• Carbon Black Cloud Sensor: All Versions
  • Endpoint Standard
• Microsoft Windows: All Supported Versions
• Apple macOS: All Supported Versions

Objective

Provide instructions for pausing a background scanning on a single device

Resolution

1. Navigate to the Endpoints page
2. Select the desired Device Name(s) (check-box on far-left)
3. Click Take Action button
4. Select 'Pause background scan'
5. Click 'Yes' in the confirmation window
6. 'Background Scanning Paused' will display

Additional Notes

• Only one automatic background scan will run per installation of the Cb Defense Sensor per endpoint
• It may take some time (up to 15 minutes) for the background scan to stop once the 'Pause background scan' action has been selected
• Manual scans can be done from the sensor command line, see this article for more information.
• The scan will re-start when the Carbon Black Cloud sensor service or endpoint restarts
