Environment

Carbon Black Cloud Workload Appliance: V1.1.2 or older

Symptoms

Appliance upgrade fails

cwp-appliance-upgrade-runner.log shows the following error:

Failed to check if the root password has expired - error time data 'never' does not match format '%b %d, %Y'

Cause

Issue caused by a bug in the password policy settings.

Resolution

Upgrade to CWP Appliance v1.2 or higher.

Enable password expiration on the appliance by following Step 1 in the Extend Password Expiration Time for Appliance guide
