[On-Prem] Announcing Controlled Distribution of New Cb Response Windows and MacOS Sensors

Hello All,

Today, the Cb Response Team is announcing Controlled Distribution of updated sensors for Windows and MacOS. Controlled Distribution sensors are generally available for production use, but have not been widely deployed.  It is recommended that you adopt a phased roll out of these CD sensors in line with your organization's software deployment best practices.

These sensor releases are primarily focused on bug fixes and performance improvements with one important exception -->  ***Important Note: The MacOS sensors released here include support for MacOS "High Sierra".

Details for each sensor release are contained in the release notes below.

If you are also a Cb Protection Customer and will be installing the 6.1.2 Windows Sensor, please review the release notes "Known Issues" section specifically under the heading "Cb Protection Upgrade Needed"

Installing new sensors --- To install the sensors into your server, please run through the following steps:

1) Ensure your yum repo is set to the appropriate controldistro repo defined below:

2) Run yum install --downloadonly --downloaddir=<local directory to download the package into> <package>

  • <package> is replaced by cb-sensor-6.1.2.70914-win or cb-osx-sensor depending on the sensor package you wish to download

3) Run rpm -i --force <name of package downloaded> Then:

  • On 5.x servers -- Restart services
  • On 6.x servers -- Run /usr/share/cb/cbcheck sensor-builds --update

Your new sensor versions should now be available via the console. If you have any issues, please contact Carbon Black Technical Support.

Thanks!

The Cb Response Team

Has any changes been done to the controldistro repo? Noticed yesterday that we get a 404 from it, and checked today that the data from this article correlates with what we have defined in our repo file for it. Or is it just a matter of it being down?

Error message when doing a yum update:

https://yum.distro.carbonblack.io/enterprise/controldistro_v6/x86_64/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 14] PYCURL ERROR 22 - "The requested URL returned error: 404 Not Found"

Hello -

The sensors are now in GA so are in the stable repo.  Please see the posting here: [Cb Response] Announcing General Availability of 6.1.2 Windows and 6.1.2 macOS Sensors

Thanks
