After upgrading a Bit9 agent, it results to this event “Unable to connect to the Kernel. Agent will not track files.”

Version

7.x

Issue/Symptoms

After upgrading a Bit9 agent, it results to this event “Unable to connect to the Kernel. Agent will not track files.”

Cause

The endpoint is using File Based Write Filter that affects upgrade when done through Bit9 policy. This filter is common on thin client endpoints.

Solution

If the File Based Write Filter will be used by the endpoint and cannot be removed, upgrade the agent manually or using a 3rd party application deployment tool. Use this command to upgrade the agent:

msiexec /p {full path}\{upgrade package}.msp B9_NOCONFIG=1 /l*v {full path}\ManualUpgrade.log

Please see Manually upgrading a Cb Protection Agent   for different upgrade packages used for Bit9 agent upgrade.
