Objective
How to upgrade the operating system or perform kernel patching with a Linux Agent installed.
Resolution
Major OS/kernel update (such as RHEL 7.x to RHEL 8.x)
- Verify the OS/kernel version being upgraded to is fully supported by the Linux Agent.
- Move the Agent into a Policy where the Mode is set to Disabled.
- Begin the major upgrade.
- After the upgrade has completed, move the Agent back to the relevant Policy.
Minor OS/kernel update (such as RHEL 7.7 to RHEL 7.9)
- Verify the OS/kernel version being upgraded to is fully supported by the Linux Agent.
- Verify the Updater, "Red Hat Software Update" is turned on in Rules > Software Rules > Updaters.
- Agent can remain in its current Enforcement Level for a minor OS/kernel update
