Warning when downloading Cb Defense sensor installer using Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge

Warning when downloading Cb Defense sensor installer using Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge

Version

Cb Defense (current)

Issue

Windows has enhanced security setting that cause Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge browser to look for additional signature when it downloads MSI files.

Symptoms

  • When using Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge browser to download Cb Defense sensor kits, depending on security settings, the downloaded file may show a warning message.
  • Attempt to run the installer package interactively will also be blocked.  Windows will look for the package signature.

Example warning

Cause

Enhanced security check is demanding additional signature on the MSI package that is missing in the current version of Cb Defense Sensor kits.

Solution

The downloaded file is not corrupt in any way or shape.  It only misses additional signature to satisfy the Windows enhanced security check.

  1. The installer package can be used without issue under unattended installation method (see How to do an unattended Windows install of Confer sensor for details).
  2. Transfer the installer package/MSI file using another mechanism (such as download using a different browser, send as an email attachment, etc.)

Important Note(s)

The issue will be resolved in a future Cb Defense release at which point this KB article will be updated.
