App Control: Host Package Installation Fails Due to Invalid Date / Time Format

App Control: Host Package Installation Fails Due to Invalid Date / Time Format

Environment

  • App Control Server: 8.1.4+
  • App Control Host Package Installer: 8.1.4 - 8.5.0

Symptoms

  • Upload of the Windows Host Package installer fails with a generic Installation Failed message
  • No hostpackageinstaller log file located in either:
    • C:\users\<SVC-Account>\appdata\local\temp\
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Bit9\Parity Server\Support
  • Running installer manually as service account shows an invalid log file name similar to:
    C:\users\<SVC-Account>\Appdata\Local\Temp\7z####.tmp\..\HostPackageInstall--3/-02-

Cause

This is caused by an unexpected Date / Time format

Resolution

  1. Verify that the server time is set to US / English per https://community.carbonblack.com/t5/Knowledge-Base/App-Control-Unable-to-run-Host-Package-Installer...
  2. Verify the date format is set with no leading 0s. An example of an expected configuration is
    4/5/2017
