App Control: How Large Will Files Expand in the Linux Agent Directory?

App Control: How Large Will Files Expand in the Linux Agent Directory?

Environment

  • App Control Linux Agent: All Supported Versions
  • Linux: All Supported Versions

Question

How large will the bit9 cache/data files expand in the Linux Agent's directory?

Answer

  • Actual storage requirements depend on factors such as the number of files on the computer and the Carbon Black App Control Server configuration.
  • By default; the Agent installation requires a minimum of 200 MB free disk space, though a minimum of 500 MB free for Agent installation is recommended.
  • In many situations the Agent's cache.db file itself will be 500MB or larger, with temporary files requiring similar storage amounts.
  • This could quickly lead to a scenario where total disk space required for the Agent & temporary files will average 2GB - 3GB of space used.
  • The temporary files created (such as the cache.db-wal file) will continue to grow in size until the endpoint is rebooted or the Agent is restarted.

Additional Notes

  • If App Control is installed to a location other than the system volume, 100MB of free space must be available on the installation volume.
  • More details can be found in the Linux Agent OER on VMware Docs > Agent Documentation > Linux Agent OER.
  • It is not currently possible to change the directory the Linux Agent's data is stored in.
