App Control: How To Install an Agent on Windows XP or Server 2003

App Control: How To Install an Agent on Windows XP or Server 2003

Environment

  • App Control Agent: Version 8.7.4 and higher
  • App Control Server: Version 8.8.2 and higher
  • Microsoft Windows XP (Service Pack 3)
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (Service Pack 2)

Objective

To install the Agent on a Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 endpoint.

Resolution

  1. Navigate to https://ServerAddress/hostpkg
  2. Download the relevant Policy.zip file to the endpoint.
    Example: Production-LowEnforcement.zip
  3. Extract the contents to a temporary location.
    Example: C:\Temp\Production-LowEnforcement\
  4. Execute the SHA1 installation file.
    Example: C:\Temp\Production-LowEnforcement\ParityHostAgent_sha1.msi

Additional Notes

  • The Unbranded (ParityHostAgent) installer is designed to verify and ingest everything contained within the extracted zip file (configlist.xml.enc, keychain.json, server.conf, TrustedCertList.pem, and Yara.bt9).
  • If the Policy.zip file is not available for download, navigate to https://ServerAddress/shpeherd_config.php and verify the Property: GenerateWindowsHostGroupZipPackage is set to true
  • Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 do not support the SHA256 signed version (ParityHostAgent.msi) of the installer and must use the SHA1 (ParityHostAgent_sha1.msi) version instead.
