App Control: How to Change the Hostname of the App Control Server

Environment

  • App Control (Formerly, CB Protection) Server: All Supported Versions
  • Microsoft Windows: All Supported Versions

Objective

Change the hostname of the App Control Server.

Resolution

  1. Login to the App Control console.
  2. Navigate to System Configuration (gear icon) > General tab.
  3. Under "Server Status" confirm the "Server Address"
    • If "Server Address" is using FQDN, a DNS alias, or "CNAME", a record that points the old name to the new name will be needed in the environment.
    • If "Server Address" is using an IP address (and the ip is changing with the host name), agents will need to be reinstalled or utilize the "dascli setserver" command (8.x only).
  4. Navigate to System Configuration (gear icon) > Security tab.
  5. Under "Current Server Certificate Details" confirm the current "Common Name" and "Subject Alternative Name"
  6. Create or import a new certificate that includes the new hostname:
  7. Add the newly created certificate to IIS:
    1. App Control: How To Export the App Control Console Certificate
    2. App Control: How To Bind a New Certificate to Parity Web Console in IIS
  8. Change the hostname of the server
  9. Navigate to System Configuration (gear icon) > General tab.
  10. Click "Edit" and update the "Server Address" to match the new name.
