App Control: NetTrace Files are Filling Up Server Storage

Environment

  • App Control Server (formerly CB Protection): All Supported Versions

Symptoms

  • App Control Reporter Service failing to start
  • NetTrace files (.bt9) are getting generated under Server path, for example: 
    c:\program files(x86)\bit9\parity server\support\

Cause

The Network Trace Logging property is enabled

Resolution

Disable the configuration NetworkTraceFlags
  1. Navigate to https://<AppControlServer>/shepherd_config.php
  2. Look for parameter NetworkTraceFlags
  3. Change the value to 0
  4. Click on Change

Additional Notes

NetworkTrace flags: 1=trace inbound traffic, 2=trace outbound traffic, 4=flatten arrays. Default: 0 (no tracing)
