App Control: Previous Upgrade Attempt Failed with Irrecoverable Errors

App Control: Previous Upgrade Attempt Failed with Irrecoverable Errors

Environment

  • App Control Server: All Supported Versions

Symptoms

Error received on App Control Server Upgrade:
Warning: Previous upgrade attempt failed with irrecoverable errors.
Full database restore is recommended before proceeding further.

Do you still want to continue without restoring your database?

Cause

When App Control is upgrading it creates a configuration in the database named "tmp_dbupgrade_step". When the upgrade is done it removes this configuration. This error indicates that a previous upgrade attempt did not fully complete, therefor the flag was never removed.

Resolution

Perform a database restore from prior to the last upgrade attempt.

Additional Notes

Serverinstall-<date>.log will show when the error occurred and during which part of the upgrade. Similar to the below:
UPGRADEDB: One of the steps in database upgrade failed (error executing migrate).
