App Control: Server Service Fails to Start after Windows Update

Environment

  • App Control Server: All Supported Versions
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2019
  • Windows .NET Framework Update

Symptoms

  • App Control Server Service is crashing on start
  • Running service manually shows an error detailing the file MFC140u.dll is missing

Cause

This is caused by a C++ Redistributable failing an install or upgrade, leading to missing DLLs

Resolution

  1. Download and Install the most recent copies of the Visual C++ Redistributables from Microsoft
  2. Reboot the server
