Question

What is the difference between a certificate authority (CA) certificate and a self-signed certificate?

Answer

Self-signed certificate:
A self-signed certificate is a public key certificate that's validated and signed by the same user/organization. This means that the certificate is signed with its own private key and is not tied to the user or organization that uses it.

CA certificate:
This certificate is issued by a third-party certificate authority (CA) and requires verification of domain ownership. To establish certificate chain, certificate authority also itself issues a certificate that is named trusted root certificate.
