CB PSC: SSH Forwarding Is No Longer Working When The Agent Is Installed From /tmp On Ubuntu 16.04

CB PSC: SSH Forwarding Is No Longer Working When The Agent Is Installed From /tmp On Ubuntu 16.04

Environment

  • CB PSC Linux Sensor: 3.4.2
  • Ubuntu 16.04

Symptoms

  • The installer is copied to /tmp directory and the installer script is invoked from that path
  • Simply installing the agent w/o running it breaks the ssh forwarding, the agent does not need to execute to reproduce the problem
  • The issue is not reproducible when AllowAgentForwarding parameter is explicitly set to yes in the sshd config
  • The issue is not reproducible when the agent is installed from any directory other than /tmp (e.g. installing it from /home/<user>/, /tmp/<subdir>, etc. doesn't break the ssh forwarding)

Cause

Issue with agent forwarding configuration when installing from /tmp/

Resolution

Carbon Black is aware of the issue and is working on a resolution

Additional Notes

Workaround
Install agent from a directory other than /tmp/
