CB services wil not start with the following error: [Error 2] No Such File or Directory: '/var/log/cb/sensor/cbdaemon.WARNING"

CB services wil not start with the following error: [Error 2] No Such File or Directory: '/var/log/cb/sensor/cbdaemon.WARNING"

Version

All CB versions

Issue

When attempting to start the cb-enterprise services on the Carbon Black server, an error occurs indicating the following:

[Error 2] No Such File or Directory: '/var/log/cb/sensor/cbdaemon.WARNING'

Note: this can also occur for /var/log/cb/sensor/cbdaemon.ERROR or /var/log/cb/sensor/cbdaemon.INFO

Cause

/var/log/cb/sensor/cbdaemon.WARNING is a symbolic link that is a remnant of an old sensor installation on the CB server.

The file it is linked to does not exist anymore and the error will occur when the /var/log/cb folder is scanned during CB services startup which will detect the old sensor symbolic link.

Solution

Remove the symbolic link and attempt to start the CB services again:

rm /var/log/cb/sensor/cbdaemon.WARNING
