Carbon Black upgrade fails with a Solr report migration message

Carbon Black upgrade fails with a Solr report migration message

Version:

All Carbon Black versions.

Issue:

A Carbon Black upgrade is failing.

Symptoms:

The upgrade is aborted, and the following message is observed:

Exception: Unable to complete VT report migration to SOLR. Unable to start SOLR.

Cause:

During this step in the upgrade, a connection attempt is made to localhost.  When there is a proxy configured for the Carbon Black server, this call to localhost may fail depending on your proxy's configuration.

Solution:

To complete the upgrade, temporarily disable the proxy for the Carbon Black server.  Additionally, depending on your server's configuration, ensure the /etc/hosts file still contains the localhost reference to the loopback address:

127.0.0.1    localhost

Important Note(s):

Make sure the proxy configuration is only temporarily disabled, then enabled again immediately following the upgrade.  This is critical as Carbon Black features with the Alliance server requires internet access.
