Carbon Black Cloud Console: How To Get The Activation Code For The Legacy Sensor

Environment

  • Carbon Black Cloud Console: All Versions
  • Carbon Black Cloud Sensor: 1.x (Windows and Mac), 2.x (Windows)
    • Endpoint Standard 
    • Enterprise EDR
    • Audit and Remediation
  • Microsoft Windows: All Supported Versions
  • Apple macOS: All Supported Versions

Objective

Provide steps to get the six-digit Activation Code or Installation Code for the Legacy Sensor (1.x, 2.x)

Resolution

  1. Log into the Carbon Black Cloud Console
  2. Go to the Endpoints page
  3. Click Sensor Options → Send Installation request (Windows and macOC) → Multiple Requests
  4. Enter an email address (does not have to be valid; test@test works fine)
  5. Click Send
  6. Still while in the Endpoints page, change the Status drop down filter from "Active" to "Pending Install"
  7. Expand the details for this Pending Install invitation to the invite for test@test by clicking the single chevron (" > ") to expand the entry.
  8. Copy the value listed next to "v1.x-2.x Install Code" (there is an expiration associated with the invitation which is 7 days after invitation being sent)
    v3.x+ Install Code: {InstallationCode} v1.x-2.x Install Code: {InstallationCode} Expiration: {Date}

Additional Notes

  • The Installation Code above is used for an attended or User Interface installation.
  • The Installation Code can only be used once per invitation. 
  • The v1.x-2.x Company Registration code available from EndpointsSensor OptionsCompany Codes can be used for attended and unattended (command line) installation of the correct Sensor Versions.
