Endpoint Standard: Unable to uninstall Opentext addin for Microsoft Outlook

Endpoint Standard: Unable to uninstall Opentext addin for Microsoft Outlook

Environment

  • CB Defense Sensor: Pre 3.5
  • Microsoft Windows: All Supported Versions
  • Opentext addin for Microsoft Outlook

Symptoms

The opentext unistaller is unable to access files of type
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\vfs\ProgramFilesCommonX86\SYSTEM\MSMAPI\xxxx\mapisvc.inf
and gives a popup error.

Cause

The inf file mapisvc.inf is modified multiple times by msiexec during uninstall, and repmgr is getting reputation on it each time preventing the file from being accessed

Resolution

There are several resolutions but none are simple.
  • Upgrade to 3.5 sensor
The following two resolutions are not without risk and should only be used when upgrade is not an option.
  • Put sensor in bypass for duration of un-installation
  • Put policy bypass in place for msiexec.exe for duration of un-installation.
