How to Retrieve Files from an Unbootable Apple Hard Drive

How to Retrieve Files from an Unbootable Apple Hard Drive

Environment

  • Apple MacOS: All Supported Versions

Objective

To retrieve files from an unbootable Apple hard drive.

Resolution

  • Use Target Disk Mode to move files from an Apple hard drive using another MacOS endpoint.

Additional Notes

  • The administrator will require two MacOS endpoints to transfer files.
  • A MacOS placed into Target Mode will allow access to the system drive content as long as the issue is a system-based problem, and not an issue with the physical drive.
