App Control: Is it Safe to Change the Global CLI Password?

App Control: Is it Safe to Change the Global CLI Password?

Environment

  • App Control Server: All Supported Versions

Question

Is it safe to change the global CLI password?

Answer

Changing the global CLI password is definitely safe.  Many organizations may change the password on a scheduled basis, as per their security requirements.

Additional Notes

  • Keep in mind - when changing the global CLI password from the console, only endpoints that are connected will receive the updated password.
  • If endpoints are disconnected, they will receive the new password the next time they reconnect.
  • If there are endpoints that are permanently disconnected (either planned, or because of some technical issue), those endpoints will not receive the new password, so it may be necessary to keep track of old passwords to use as needed.
